Alexine Raineri

My first love is playing music.  My second love is scuba diving and catching lobsters.

I played bugle in the Dedham Drum and Bugle Corps until age 13.  When I was a freshman in high school, an announcement was made over the intercom system.  She said that the band was going to start rehearsal during lunch in the auditorium.  I wanted to join, but I didn’t play an instrument.  Then about five minutes later she made another announcement saying that we could join even if we didn’t play an instrument or read music.  I thought that it was great.  I could join the band.  The music teacher, Bob Shreve, was ahead of his time.  He said that your sex should never determine what you do in life.  He would teach you whatever you wanted to learn.  If you didn’t know and were a boy, he would give you a flute or a clarinet.  If you were a girl and didn’t know, he would give you a trumpet, a trombone, or a french horn.  He gave me a trombone.  I took piano lessons, tried the flute, and tried the clarinet.  They weren’t me.  I decided that I liked the trombone.  The last time I played was at my high school graduation.  Five years later I went back to the music teacher to speak to him.  I told him that I really missed playing and wanted to start again.  He helped me get started.  I started playing again September of 1976.  Since that time, I’ve played in over 20 groups.  I also managed and plated with a group called Ragtime and Jazz for over 39 years.  I’ve met so many wonderful people playing music.  My favorite music is the 40s, and my favorite musician is Glenn Miller.

Other activities are cooking baking, knitting, crocheting, making furniture, making jewelry.  I’ve also done some minor electrical and plumbing repairs.  I used to do my own car maintenance until they created fuel injection.  I was a secretary for the Army Corps for over 37 years.
